Prestatyn and Meliden mayor attends virtual dementia simulator event
The all-day awareness event was attended by workers from care homes in the area, and the mayor was able to talk to attendees about dementia care.
Also part of the event was the virtual dementia tour bus, which is a simulator that gives a person with a healthy brain an experience of what dementia might be like.
Attendees had to put prickly insoles in their shoes, wear special darkened glasses, wear headphones of continuous everyday noises to take away hearing and concentration and padded gloves to take away sense of touch.
The Mayor said: “I felt so disorientated, confused and isolated. It was quite a frightening experience.
“The whole event opened my eyes to the problems people with dementia and their families have to contend with on a daily basis.
I would like to thank John Sanders from Training2Care and Becky Bowcott, the community welfare officer at Dementia Aware Denbighshire and Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council, for organising the event.”
